Agartala, Tripura, February 25 (HBTV): The Tripura United Indigenous Revolutionary Peoples’ Council (TUIRPC), a group of surrendered militants, imposed a 24-hour road blockade on the Assam-Agartala National Highway, demanding fulfillment of their 21-point charter of demands. 

TUIRPC leader Daniel Borok Debbarma stated that despite promises made in the peace accord, many assurances including the withdrawal of police cases against the former rebels remain unfulfilled. Further, he criticized the government for settling them in remote areas lacking basic amenities. 

Their key demands include free education for children of former militants, introduction of Inner Line Permit in the TTAADC areas, and full implementation of the ATTF accord.   

Debbarma warned of prolonged protests if their concerns are ignored. 

Though essential vehicles were exempted from the purview of the blockade, it paralyzed traffic, leaving hundreds stranded. The protesters vowed to escalate their agitation if the government does not engage in talks.
